Flower Mound , Texas Apple iMac Startup issue Options with a gear icon If you own the new Apple Silicon (M1) iMac, you may have seen a gear icon sometimes during startup. The gear icon with options is just a startup options menu. This is not necessarily a startup issue, but will occur if you press and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds. If you see a gear icon you can do the following after you click on it : 1. Select Startup Disk. 2. Open MacOS Recovery where you can reinstall your MacOS or Use disk Utility. 3. Shut Down or Restart your iMac. If you unintentionally reached the screen with gear icon, you can simply restart your iMac and your iMac should boot right back up. If your iMac is repeatedly going to the screen with gear icon and not booting up, then there might be other underlying issues.
